Update, 4:50 p.m.:

A flash flood warning for San Luis Obispo County has been extended through midnight.

The National Weather Service extended the existing flood warning, which was originally set to expire at 4:45 p.m.

According to the NWS, local law enforcement reported widespread dangerous flash flooding throughout San Luis Obispo County at 4:44 p.m. Between 2 and 6 inches of rain fell during the current storm, with up to a foot of rain in the higher terrain, according to the warning.

An additional 1 to 4 inches was possible through the rest of the night.

The NWS continued to warn that the situation was dangerous and life-threatening, and cautioned people against traveling unless fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for San Luis Obispo County on Monday as the region grapples with the impacts of a intense storm.

The alert was sent out at 10:57 a.m. and warned San Luis Obispo County residents of a “dangerous and life-threatening situation.”

According to the National Weather Service, local law enforcement officials reported that heavy rain across the area was producing dangerous flash flooding.

Up to 3 inches of rain have fallen over the past several hours, according to the alert.

Additional rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is possible in the warned area and flash flooding is already occurring, the National Weather Service said.

People are urged not to attempt to travel unless fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation warning, the agency said.

The warning is in effect until 4:45 p.m. Monday.
