Evacuation warning expanded for Oceano Lagoon, Arroyo Grande Creek Levee
With an impending weekend storm, the San Luis Obispo County Office of Emergency Services expanded its evacuation warning for the Oceano Lagoon and Arroyo Grande Creek Levee area.
Now, the evacuation warning includes four parts of Oceano:
- North of Highway 1, West of 21st Street and South of Ocean Street
- North of the Arroyo Grande Creek Levee
- South of Wilshire Avenue, Highway 1 and Pier Avenue
- East of Strand Way
“Residents in this area should be prepared for possible flooding and evacuation as additional storms hit the county,” a news release from the Office of Emergency Services said.
Residents should still stay away from the area south of the levee, the agency said.
“It is observed that residents are returning to the area, and we want to be clear that this area will most likely flood first if there is another breach of the levee,” the news release said. “Anyone staying or returning to this area is doing so at their own risk.”
Emergency officials will use tools such as social media, local media, Wireless Emergency Alerts and reverse telephone notification systems to inform residents if they need to evacuate, the agency said.
Folks can find storm information such as maps of the evacuation area or where to find sand bags at ReadySLO.org, according to the news release.
