Paso Robles firefighters rescue man stranded on island in Salinas River
The Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services Department rescued a man stranded on an island in the Salinas River on Friday afternoon.
The agency received a call for a person trapped in the riverbed, near the 13th Street Bridge, Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services said in a news release.
Firefighters found a man standing on an island in the middle of the river, the release said.
“He was unable to move from his location without entering the water,” the agency said in the release. “He told rescuers that he was exhausted and needed help.”
After evaluating their options, Paso Robles firefighters used an aerial ladder to perform a high-angle rope rescue to secure the man and bring him to safety, the release said.
Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services sent three fire engines, a battalion chief, a deputy chief, a heavy rescue and an aerial ladder to the scene, according to the release.
San Luis Ambulance and the Paso Robles Police Department also helped with rescue efforts, the release said.
