Petco is closing one of its SLO County locations. Here’s where and when

The San Luis Obispo Petco will close its doors by the end of the year.

According to signs posted on the pet goods store on Tuesday, the business is closing its Madonna Plaza doors permanently. Cashiers inside told customers the store would be officially closed by about Dec. 18.

It is one of three Petco locations in San Luis Obispo County: The other two are in Paso Robles and Arroyo Grande.

According to the signs posted on the business Tuesday, all items are currently 30% off as part of its closing sale.

It is unclear why the business is closing, and a request for comment from Petco was declined on Tuesday evening.

Real estate documents posted on LoopNet.com show the 20,100-square-foot space being divided into two separate spaces, though it is unclear when that document — made by Gallelli Real Estate out of Roseville — was published.

A request for comment from Gallelli Real Estate was not returned Tuesday evening.

The surrounding Madonna Shopping Plaza had an influx of new tenants in recent years.

In 2019, Michaels and Ross Dress for Less both opened in freshly renovated spaces in the shopping center, while Aerie opened in 2020.

Other tenants in the shopping plaza include Ralph’s grocery store, Best Buy and Kohls.
