Women’s clothing chain is opening a store in SLO. Here are the details

Women’s clothing retailer Aerie is coming to San Luis Obispo.

The company has received a $271,000 building permit to remodel a 3,718-square-foot spot at 261 Madonna Road, a vacant storefront between Petco and Best Buy.

The permit was issued Dec. 7, and a construction worker spotted outside the store on Tuesday said that he believes it will open in the Madonna Plaza shopping center toward the end of January.

Store media officials didn’t respond to emailed requests for comment.

American Eagle Outfitters, Aerie’s parent company, has nearly 1,000 stores worldwide with the closest locations in Santa Barbara and the San Joaquin Valley.

Aerie is a “lifestyle brand offering intimates, apparel, activewear and swim collections,” the store’s website says.

“Aerie celebrates its community by advocating for body positivity and the empowerment of all women,” the website states. “Aerie believes in inspiring customers to love their real selves, inside and out.”

American Eagle Outfitters’ stock has been on the upswing lately. Online sales have been performing well, and it appears that its brick-and-mortar locations should improve sales in 2021 as more people are vaccinated for COVID-19 and in-person shopping picks up.

The company delivered strong consolidated digital sales growth of 29%, accounting for 37% of total revenues in third-quarter fiscal 2020. Management recently introduced the same-day delivery option for online orders.

Founded in 1977, the retailer is headquartered in Pittsburgh.
