Paso Robles woman sentenced to jail for drunken driving death outside bar
A Paso Robles woman was sentenced to a year in San Luis Obispo County Jail on Monday, after she pleaded no contest to felony vehicular manslaughter charges for the death of a man who tried to stop her from driving drunk.
Sarah Dorothy Hale was sentenced Monday to 364 days in County Jail, and she is scheduled to serve about half of that time, according to court records.
Hale, 25, pleaded no contest in February to felony charges of gross vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence causing injury or death, and hit and run causing injury or death for the death of 21-year-old Jose Montes Guillen.
Guillen was among a group of people who attempted to stop an intoxicated Hale from driving away from the Santa Maria Brewing Company on 14th Street in Paso Robles at about 10 p.m. Dec. 28, 2018.
The Paso Robles resident died after he was thrown to the ground by Hale’s vehicle, Paso Robles police said at the time.
Hale fled the scene of the crash, but was later found by police at her home, where she was arrested.
Court records say her blood alcohol content at the time was measured at 0.17, more than twice the legal limit to drive.
Montes Guillen later succumbed to his injuries at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo, after Hale had been released from San Luis Obispo County Jail after posting $100,000 bail.
Following Monday’s hearing, Hale was taken into the custody of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.
Her attorney, Earl Conaway, could not immediately be reached for comment Monday afternoon.
