The San Luis Obispo Police Department has identified the motorcyclist killed in a crash on Broad Street on Tuesday.

According to a news release Wednesday, the motorcycle rider has been identified as Jeremiah Gerlach, a 25-year-old resident of San Luis Obispo.

Police said Gerlach was traveling southbound on Broad Street at about 9 a.m. when he collided with a vehicle turning left onto Caudill Street.

He sustained major injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, the Police Department said.

Because of the severity of the crash, the city’s Severe Collision Investigation Detail was called out to the scene to conduct an investigation. Broad Street was temporarily closed during the incident investigation.

Police said the driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was cooperating with the investigation. DUI is not suspected as a factor in the crash.

The collision is still under investigation, according to the Police Department release on Wednesday.
