Motorcyclist injured as crash slows traffic on Highway 166

Traffic Alert

Eastbound traffic on Highway 166 along the San Luis Obispo-Santa Barbara county line was slowed by the second crash on the roadway today — this time involving a motorcyclist.

At around 12:42 p.m., the California Highway Patrol received a report of a solo motorcycle crash on Highway 166 around 1.5 miles east of the Twitchell Reservoir, according to the CHP’s Traffic Incident Information Page.

Shortly after initial reports of the crash were received, several semi-trucks were forced to stop, blocking traffic in the eastbound lane, according to the CHP page.

One patient was transported via ambulance from the scene of the crash, according to a spokesperson for Cal Fire.

A tow truck was requested by 12:56 p.m., but eastbound traffic remained impacted as of 1:15 p.m.

Earlier Wednesday morning, a fatal crash closed the highway in both directions east of Pine Canyon Road, about 18 miles east of junction with US 101.
