Motorcyclist dies after crash with car on busy SLO street
A motorcyclist died after colliding with a car in San Luis Obispo on Tuesday morning.
Just before 9 a.m., a motorcyclist traveling southbound on Broad Street crashed into a vehicle that was turning left from the northbound lanes onto Caudill Street, the San Luis Obispo Police Department said in a news release.
The motorcyclist suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he died, the release said.
His name and identity was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
During the investigation, a southbound stretch of Broad Street was closed on Tuesday morning from Woodbridge Street to Mitchell Drive and drivers were detoured through the surrounding neighborhood.
Evidence markers were placed at various points on Broad for about a block, and clothes were piled in the street in one spot.
A motorcycle, which did not appear to be a law enforcement vehicle, was parked standing up on the sidewalk behind the police tape at the corner of Broad and Caudill streets.
Due to the severity of the collision, the Severe Collision Investigation Detail team was called out to the scene to carry out the investigation, the news release said.
The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation, the release said. There is no suspicion the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
