Sheriff identifies man killed in backhoe accident at SLO County winery

The man who died in a tractor rollover incident in San Luis Obispo County last week has been identified.

Francisco Javier Gutierrez Urias died after getting pinned under a backhoe at a winery in Creston on Friday, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Tony Cipolla confirmed to The Tribune on Wednesday.

Urias was 40 years old and from Avenal, Cipolla said.

The backhoe rollover occurred Friday afternoon and sparked a multi-agency response, Cal Fire spokesperson Eva Grady previously told The Tribune.

A coroner was dispatched to the property on Truesdale Road, and the fatality was confirmed by the Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.
