One person dies after backhoe tips over at SLO County winery

One person died after they were trapped under a backhoe that tipped over at a winery in Shandon on Friday.

The backhoe accident was reported at 3435 Truesdale Road in Shandon at around 2:46 p.m. on Friday, Cal Fire spokesperson Eva Grady previously told The Tribune.

The incident sparked a multi-agency response, and responders were still attempting to extricate the patient after 5 p.m., Grady said.

SLO County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Tony Cipolla confirmed on Tuesday that one person died in the incident.

The Sheriff’s Office did not immediately identify the victim.
