Annual holiday pop-up market is back. Take a look inside SLOcally Made
The pop-up market of goods from a multitude of different Central Coast-based makers is back for the holiday season.
SLOcally Made at 877 Monterey St. in San Luis Obispo is celebrating its ninth year of hosting artists and makers selling an array of handmade sustainable goods.
The indoor market, inside Thrifty Beaches, opened Nov. 28 and closes Dec. 24, with ceramics, jewelry, clothing items, body care, cocktail mixers, lavender, art pieces and more.
“Every time I use an item that’s been handmade by somebody, I’m so happy to use it and wear it and love it,” co-founder Kerry Long told The Tribune. “It just has so much more meaning than something that was just purchased at Target or Costco or online. Items that are made by hand just feel good, and they’re meant to last.”
Co-founders Long and Sadie Moss first started the retail market back in 2017, and nine years later, 17 core makers each have a designated space for their curated goods for the holiday season.
In total, 85 total artists are featured at SLOcally Made, with their handmade materials sprinkled throughout the wooden table displays.
“I think people do a lot of their spending during the holidays,” Long said. “It keeps money in our community, it supports these makers, and it’s hard to do these things by yourself. When we come together and do it, it’s all in one central location and makes it easy for the public to come here and be able to support many different makers.”
SLOcally Made recently launched its online website to highlight local artists year-round and for customers to order online and pick up items at the market.
