SLO County city reopens park after $3.3 million renovation. Take a look
After a year of construction and more than $3 million in renovations, Grover Beach unveiled its revitalized Ramona Garden Park on Thursday.
More than 200 people roamed around at the reopening and ribbon-cutting event Thursday, which featured free drinks from Dutch Bros, face painting and dance performances.
Dozens of kids laughed and screamed while running around a giant new blue, green and tan play area containing multiple sets of slides, swing sets, monkey bars and the only zipline in south San Luis Obispo County.
Grover Beach Mayor Kassi Dee said the brand-new playground was designed for children of all abilities, calling the completed park project a “true community creation.”
“Ramona Garden Park will be the heart of our neighborhood life, and it’s all because of you, the community, who helped make this park what it is today. So enjoy your legacy,” she said at the event.
The major rehabilitation project includes an upgraded amphitheater with a bandshell that will be used to host future concerts, movie nights and arts events, a city news release said.
The park also has three modernized public restrooms and ADA-accessible sidewalks that loop around the grassy perimeter, as well as a spacious green lawn in the center.
SLO County Supervisor Dawn Ortiz-Legg congratulated Grover Beach for completing a project that benefits all city residents.
“When we look at Grover Beach ... we see a city that really looks to the future, that really looks to a vision that encompasses all ages,” she said. “It’s the place where families thrive. It’s a place where memories are made.”
The park project was mostly funded through a $3.3 million Community Development Block Grant from California’s Department of Housing and Community Development, along with some local development impact fees and community fundraising efforts, according to the release.
