Someone is going door-to-door in Paso Robles falsely claiming the city’s water is contaminated — a scam that has already hit two other San Luis Obispo County cities.

The scam has moved to Paso Robles after already having been reported in San Luis Obispo and Arroyo Grande recently.

In the scam, someone claims Paso Robles’ tap water is contaminated with wastewater or recycled water — a claim the city says is false — in an attempt to sell water treatment devices, the city said in a news release.

In some cases, the scammers use a falsified water test that appears to show water contamination to convince residents, the news release said.

Information regarding Paso Robles water quality will always come from official city communication channels, the news release said.

The city reassured its residents that the tap water is not contaminated and is safe for drinking and use. Regular quality tests ensure the city’s water consistently meets all health and safety standards, the city said.

Any questions about water safety should be directed to the Paso Robles Utilities Department at 805-237-3864.
