A scam targeting Arroyo Grande water customers is currently circulating through the southern San Luis Obispo County city.

According to a news release, a scam similar to one recently reported in several neighboring cities was reported by Arroyo Grande residents.

The scam falsely claims that Arroyo Grande’s water is contaminated, advising residents not to drink the water, and attempts to sell water treatment products to residents based on the false claims, the release said.

“The water in Arroyo Grande continues to be safe to drink and is continually monitored and tested to meet all health and safety standards,” the release stated.

Water quality information can be found at www.arroyogrande.org, and direct questions on water safety can be directed to the city’s Public Works Utilities Division at 805-473-5460.
