How can The Tribune improve its housing coverage? We want your feedback

San Luis Obispo County housing: A background chyron image of homes

The Tribune is on the hunt for new ways to cover the issue of housing in San Luis Obispo County, and we want your help deciding what topics need our attention the most.

In 2025, housing has never been more unattainable to the average San Luis Obispo County resident, whether you’re a renter or buyer.

That much is obvious, but the best reporting always looks to answer how and why these systemic problems exist, and that starts with knowing where to look.

In the past few years, The Tribune’s coverage of housing and homelessness has covered the market’s status amid a period of prolonged high interest rates, examined the ways that federal funding cuts will impact local housing and homelessness programs, and shared stories of hope and recovery in homelessness.

We’ve also shown the other end of the housing world, taking a look at some of San Luis Obispo’s most unique properties on the market, and have covered the ways that new state and local housing goals shaped development priorities across the county.

That said, want to take our cues from our readers when we look at the best ways to expand our coverage of local housing issues.

We’re asking you to help cover our blind spots, be that housing issues that have flown under the radar, unexplained trends or traditions in the local housing market or unique stories of homelessness and the people trying to make a difference.

Check out The Tribune’s latest Housing Coverage Survey to give us feedback on our housing coverage or to give us new ideas of how we can do this work even better for our community.
