Severed foot found in Templeton was from a Highway 101 car crash — 3 miles away

A foot found in rural Templeton belonged to a Highway 101 car crash victim whose legs were severed in a fiery crash, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

According to a news release, the foot found on July 26 near Santa Rita Road was from a car crash north of the Vineyard Drive off-ramp on July 17.

That collision occurred when the car the male was driving crashed into a guardrail and caught fire while going southbound, according to the release.

Both of the man’s legs were severed in that collision, the Sheriff’s Office said.

One foot was recovered at the scene, but the other foot could not be found, the release said.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the second foot was located nine days later and roughly three miles away from the crash. A bicyclist reported finding the foot near Santa Rita Road, the agency said.

The driver survived the crash, the Sheriff’s Office said.
