Pismo Beach police say cliff fall near hotel likely a suicide
A cliff fall near a Pismo Beach hotel that resulted in a man’s death on Monday was likely a suicide, according to the Pismo Beach Police Department.
Cal Fire and emergency crews responded to the area of 2555 Price St. in Pismo Beach around 2:35 p.m. Monday for reports of a person who had fallen over the side of the cliff near Shore Cliff Hotel.
On Tuesday, Pismo Beach Police Chief Jake Miller said police had received a call from an employee of a nearby business earlier Monday morning reporting a person on the bluff side of the fence near the hotel.
A police officer and Cal Fire firefighters responded to look for the subject, but were unable to find anyone, Miller said. The employee told police she went back outside after calling police, but the person was no longer there.
Miller said another agency contacted police later Monday about a person they were looking for, prompting a second search. During that later search, they located the victim.
An emergency responder attempted to perform CPR on the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
