About 1,000 runners started their Thanksgiving morning with some exercise at the sixth annual South County Turkey Trot at Pismo Beach south of the pier.

The trot included a 1 mile, 5K and 10K — and welcomed dogs.

T-shirts and baseball caps were for sale at the event, with all proceeds from those going to the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County.

The annual event is held in memory of Christine Allen, who was killed in a rock slide while camping with her family in southeastern Utah in 2013. The trot was one of three fun runs held in SLO County on Thanksgiving, all of which benefited the Food Bank.
