Planet Fitness is opening a new 24-hour gym in SLO County. Here’s where and when

A new 24-hour gym is set to open in San Luis Obispo this fall.

Planet Fitness will open its newest club in the Marigold Center in San Luis Obispo in September, according to company marketing and administrative coordinator DonnaMarie Hendriksen.

This will be the third Planet Fitness location in San Luis Obispo County. The others are in Arroyo Grande and Paso Robles.

According to its website, Planet Fitness “strives to create a workout environment where everyone feels accepted and respected.”

The company as founded in Dover, New Hampshire, in 1992. Since then, it has grown to include more than 2,000 locations in the United States and abroad.

Hendriksen told The Tribune that the new San Luis Obispo Planet Fitness location will be located at 3880 Broad St., in the former location of Michaels. The craft store opened at its current location in the Madonna Plaza shopping center in 2019.

The new gym will occupy about 21,006 square feet, Hendriksen said.

Further details on the new Planet Fitness were not available yet, but Hendricksen said an online pre-sale for discounted memberships to the new location is expected to begin in late July
