Fires burn RVs on opposite sides of SLO County on same night. ‘It is bizarre’
Two recreational vehicles caught fire on Wednesday night — on opposite sides of San Luis Obispo County.
“It is bizarre that there were two in one night,” Cal Fire spokesperson Eva Grady told The Tribune on Thursday morning.
Neither fire resulted in injuries, she said.
First, a fifth wheel parked at an Oceano campground on Silver Spur Place caught fire at about 6:43 p.m., she said.
Two people were staying in the fifth wheel, but they were not inside the vehicle when it caught fire, she said.
The fire caused moderate damage to the rear of the vehicle. Firefighters from Cal Fire and the Five Cities Fire Authority extinguished the blaze by 7 p.m.
Then, in Paso Robles, an RV parked outside a residence on Whispering Oak Way caught fire at about 7:38 p.m., Grady said.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, the blaze engulfed the RV. No one was inside the vehicle when the fire started, Grady said.
Cal Fire and Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services extinguished the blaze within an hour. The RV was destroyed, she said.
The RV was not being used as a residence, so no one was displaced by the blaze, Grady said.
The cause of both fires was under investigation. Cal Fire did not believe the two incidents were connected.
