New pickleball, tennis courts are coming to SLO County city. See where

Pismo Beach is serving up some new recreation opportunities for locals and visitors.

On Wednesday, the city celebrated the groundbreaking of its new Ventana Sports Courts, located at 30 Ventana Drive directly across from Chumash Park.

The new complex will add a tennis court, two pickleball courts and a parking lot to the city’s register of recreation spots. They replace the former tennis and basketball courts on Bello Street and Wadsworth Avenue that were displaced to make way for the city’s ongoing $50 million Public Safety Facility project.

“The new courts are designed to expand access to some of the community’s fastest-growing sports while also complementing the existing amenities at Chumash Park,” the city said in a news release.

The $2.3 million project also includes the addition of a new pedestrian crosswalk on Ventana Drive to create a safer route between the two sites, the release said.

“This project will provide another great recreational amenity for our community and reflects our commitment to investing in neighborhood parks and active lifestyles,” Mayor Ed Waage said in the release. “The addition of these courts and the new crosswalk will create a safe and welcoming space for residents to gather, stay active and enjoy everything our parks system has to offer.”

The city did not specify a timeline for when the new courts may be ready to open.
