This SLO County city had its rainiest Christmas on record this year

Paso Robles saw its rainiest Christmas holiday on record this year thanks to the atmospheric river storm that swept across California.

According to the National Weather Service, the North County city recorded 1.92 inches and 0.91 inches of rain on Dec. 24 and 25, respectively.

That broke the previous Christmas Eve and Christmas Day records for the city, 1.68 inches in 1955 and 0.7 inches in 1971, the Weather Service said.

The city is in the midst of one of its wettest rain seasons to date.

Since Oct. 1, what the Weather Service uses as the start of the rain season, Paso Robles has seen 7.42 inches fall.

That’s well above the average of 3.01 inches for this time of year, the agency said, though it is below the rainiest season.

That was in 1966 when 9.56 inches of rain fell between Oct. 1 and Dec. 26, according to the Weather Service.

Meanwhile, Santa Maria also broke its record for Christmas Day, recording 0.83 inches on Dec. 25, compared with the previous high of 0.75 inches set in 1927.
