How much rain fell in atmospheric river storm this week? See SLO County totals

San Luis Obispo County received multiple inches of rain over the last three days as an atmospheric river slammed California.

County locations received anywhere from 1 inch to nearly 7 inches of rain in the 72-hour period ending at 6 a.m. on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The SLO County area with the most rainfall was West Santa Margarita coming in at 6.7 inches, according to the Weather Service.

The San Luis Obispo area received between 2.5 inches and 4 inches, while the South County topped out at around just over 5 inches at Lake Lopez. North County ranged between 3 inches in Paso Robles and 5 inches in Atascadero.

Three-day totals were not reported for Arroyo Grande, Morro Bay or Pismo Beach.

  • Davis Peak (near Montaña de Oro): 2.56 inches
  • Lopez Dam: 5.13 inches

  • Nipomo: 2.29 inches
  • Oceano: 2.47 inches
  • Rocky Butte: 5.12 inches
  • Salinas Dam: 5.9 inches
  • Santa Margarita East: 5.36 inches
  • Santa Margarita West: 6.70 inches
  • San Luis Obispo (Broad Street and Industrial Way): 3.17 inches
  • San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport: 2.57 inches
  • San Luis Obispo at Cal Poly: 4.12 inches
  • Shandon: 2.5 inches
  • Templeton: 3.13 inches
  • Paso Robles: 3.04 inches
  • Nacimiento River (county line): 6.54 inches
  • Las Tablas: 5.42 inches
  • La Panza: 4.3 inches

What’s ahead in SLO County’s forecast

This week’s atmospheric river system was expected to continue through on Friday, with a flood watch ending at 6 p.m., according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Rain and thunderstorms were likely through 10 p.m., adding less than a tenth of an inch, the forecast predicted.

Sunny skies were expected to return this weekend, with temperatures in the low-to-mid 50s during the days.

The weather was forecast to hold until Wednesday, when a second smaller storm system may bring a chance of rain through New Year’s Day.
