Batten down the hatches, SLO County: High wind expected through Christmas
San Luis Obispo County residents should batten down the hatches through Christmas Day as high winds sweep through the Central Coast.
On Monday morning, the San Luis Obispo County Office of Emergency Services issued a high wind watch from Monday afternoon until 3 p.m. on Thursday, according to the OES Facebook page.
The winds come as a major atmospheric river storm is expected to hit much of California this week, bringing with it the potential for rain and flooding.
According to the high wind watch, southerly winds between 30 and 50 mph are possible across San Luis Obispo County, with gusts of 80 mph possible.
Wind is expected to be strongest in the mountains, according to the high wind watch.
High enough winds can blow down trees and power lines, potentially causing outages, according to the high wind watch.
Travel could also be impacted should conditions worsen enough, according to the OES post.
