Batten down the hatches: SLO County coast could see winds up to 40 mph

San Luis Obispo County beaches and coastal cities were placed under a wind advisory from Thursday afternoon to Friday night amid expected gusty conditions.

Northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are expected along San Luis Obispo County beaches and inland cities, with the strongest winds in afternoon and evening hours, according to the National Weather Service.

The advisory was in effect for Santa Maria, Nipomo, Pismo Beach, San Luis Obispo, Cambria, Morro Bay, Arroyo Grande and Avila Beach.

The advisory went into effect at 1:37 p.m. on Thursday and will last until 9 p.m. on Friday, according to the Weather Service.

“Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects,” the Weather Service said. “Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.”

The Weather Service warned of driving during strong winds.
