Feral dog trapped under shipping container in Paso Robles rescued by Cal Fire
A Cal Fire unit rescued an overheated dog trapped under a shipping container on Thursday.
While at the Cal Fire service center off Airport Road in Paso Robles, an officer heard some yipping coming from the service yard, Cal Fire spokesperson Toni Davis told The Tribune.
At first, the officer thought maybe there was a dog fight, but when they looked around a bit more they discovered the dog trapped underneath a large shipping container, she said.
The officer attempted to attempted to dig the dog out, but couldn’t break ground on the hard dirt and was getting the animal dirty, so they called for backup, Davis said.
With help from another engine, crews used the Jaws of Life to lift the heavy container and free the overheating pup, who “looked like he was melting,” the agency said in a Facebook post. Officers shielded the dog from the sun throughout the rescue.
Once free, the dog ran off, but officers put out water, which the dog is returning to drink, Davis said. They plan to bring the dog, who appears to be feral, into a shelter as soon as they can make friendly contact, she said.
“The dog is out and about,” Davis said.
