Bundle up, SLO County: Temperatures could drastically drop just before Halloween

Weather update

Break out those turtlenecks: It’s likely to be a chilly Halloween, San Luis Obispo County.

While temperatures will remain in the 80s and high 70s through Oct. 26, some SLO County communities will start to see high temperatures drop into the 60s by Oct. 28, according to the National Weather Service.

In San Luis Obispo, the NWS projected a high temperature of 64 degrees on Oct. 28 and 65 degrees on Oct. 29. That’s a more than 15-degree drop from the high temperatures this week.

Paso Robles will also experience cooler weather, with a high of 70 expected on Oct. 29, according to NWS — also an abrupt 15-degree drop in temperatures.

Overnight temperatures in both communities are expected to be in the 40s and 50s, according to the NWS.

Coastal towns like Pismo Beach and Morro Bay meanwhile will continue to see temperatures in the 60s, compared to higher temperatures in inland communities.

The cool weather will also be accompanied by increased winds, with gusts up to 45 mph in some areas of the county, according to the NWS.

Meteorologist John Lindsey told The Tribune the cold front looks standard for this time of year.

“It’s pretty typical for late October, early November to have cooler conditions,” Lindsey said.

Lindsey added that the cold front is likely to be dry — something that could indicate low precipitation levels for the remainder of the year.

“We like to see those cold fronts producing rain,” Lindsey said.
