This SLO County city just broke a 44-year-old heat record — and another could soon fall
The heat wave is officially here — and already smashing temperature records.
On Tuesday, the Paso Robles Municipal Airport recorded a high temperature of 107 degrees, breaking the previous record of 106 set on the same day in 1980, meteorologist John Lindsey posted on X.
According to Lindsey, another record could fall on Wednesday if the city hits 107 degrees as forecasted. The previous record for the same day was 105 degrees, set in 2012, he said.
The record-breaking temperatures come as a heat wave is expected to bring triple-digit temps to much of San Luis Obispo County this week.
The National Weather Service even issued an excessive heat warning for the area that is scheduled to be into effect through Thursday at 8 p.m.
In North County, Paso Robles could potentially reach as high as 110 degrees on Wednesday, and Atascadero could hit 105 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
San Luis Obispo, meanwhile, could reach 103 degrees and coastal areas like Morro Bay and Pismo Beach will remain in the low 80s, the Weather Service said.
Temperatures will briefly drop toward the end of the week before picking up again into the weekend.
