Heat advisory issued for SLO County. How long will triple-digit temperatures last?
Triple-digit temperatures are set to scorch parts of San Luis Obispo County this week, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service.
High heat is expected throughout the week, said Bryan Lewis, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.
“There’s a little bit of uncertainty” about when temperatures will start to drop, he said, but it is not unusual to see triple-digit temperatures during this time of the year.
An upper-level, high-pressure system centered over North Central California is limiting off coastal winds that typically act as a natural air conditioner for San Luis Obispo County, Lewis said.
The weather service warned that temperatures up to 105 are expected.
Heat advisory issued for parts of SLO County
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for San Luis Obispo County’s interior valleys and mountains, as well as the Cuyama Valley, southern Salinas Valley and Santa Lucia Mountains.
These areas include the cities of San Miguel, Templeton, Paso Robles, Atascadero and Shandon.
The heat advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday through 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The weather service warned that temperatures will reach unsafe levels for sensitive populations including “the very young, the very old, those without air conditioning and those active outdoors.”
The weather service advised impacted residents to stay hydrated, reside in air-conditioned rooms, avoid the sun and check in on at-risk individuals.
