Verizon experienced a widespread outage impacting many — but not all — Verizon phones Monday morning, including some in San Luis Obispo County.

Many customers’ phones were in “SOS” mode, meaning they could still text or call 911, but could not otherwise use their Verizon phones, according to the San Luis Obispo County Office of Emergency Services.

The phone carrier was getting hundreds of thousands of reports from users nationwide, according to Downdetector.

No cause was known at as of Monday morning, according to the county Office of Emergency Services.

Verizon posted on X that it was “aware of an issue impacting service for some customers” and had engineers “working quickly to identify and solve the issue.”
