Search for 5-year-old lost in SLO County floodwaters to continue all week. Here’s the latest
The search for the 5-year-old who was swept away in San Miguel floodwaters last week continued Tuesday, and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is prepared to continue search efforts through the rest of the week, the office said in a Facebook post.
The sheriff’s dive team and search and rescue members continued to look for Kyle Doan in San Marcos Creek and the Salinas River in San Miguel.
Kyle disappeared when he was swept away in floodwaters during the Jan. 9 storm after his mother’s car was overtaken by water in San Marcos Creek. Bystanders were able to save his mother, but Kyle disappeared into the current.
Water levels dropped in the area Tuesday, allowing ground and water teams to search more areas with K9’s, the office said on social media.
“The Sheriff’s Office is prepared for continued search efforts all this week,” the post said.
The office previously received help from more than 200 out-of-county personnel, including more than 100 California National Guard members, as well as drone operators, dive team members, search and rescue team members and K9 units from the Grover Beach Police Department, Cal Fire, and Ventura, Santa Barbara, Sacramento, Santa Clara and Kern County sheriff’s offices.
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office has led the search from the beginning. The office is now the sole agency searching as of Friday.
