Extreme temperature warning extended as heat wave lingers over SLO County
The National Weather Service has extended its excessive heat warning for San Luis Obispo County.
The Weather Service issued the alert — which notified residents of “dangerously hot conditions” developing throughout the area due to a massive, multi-day heat wave — on Aug. 31.
The warning was initially expected to expire Monday, but has now been extended to Thursday at 8 p.m.
The updated warning cautioned of temperatures up to 112 degrees developing across the Central Coast.
According to National Weather Service, the North County will continue to see triple-digit temperatures through Thursday before cooling to the low 90s this weekend.
In San Luis Obispo and along the coastal valleys, temperatures are expected to cool from the 90s to the high 70s by the end of the week.
Meanwhile, rain could potentially develop across the region later in the week, bringing with it cooler temperatures and the risk of thunderstorms.
