San Luis Obispo breaks heat record set in 1955
San Luis Obispo set a daily record high temperature Saturday, according to a tweet from meteorologist John Lindsey.
And it may not be the only local spot to do so.
“At noon today, the San Luis Obispo County Airport hit 106 degrees, breaking the previous daily record of 105 set in 1955,” Lindsey wrote. “This record-breaking warmth was partially caused by the Santa Lucia (northeasterly) winds flowing down the Cuesta Grade.”
Paso Robles was forecast to reach 113 degrees on Saturday, which would break the previous record of 109 set in 1988. As of 4 p.m., the temperature was at 108.
Much of the region and state remains under an excessive heat warning, which is set to run through Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Paso Robles is expected to see triple-digit heat through at least Friday, with the worst lasting from Saturday through Labor Day, which has a forecast high of 112 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
After Saturday’s record-setting heat, San Luis Obispo is expected to drop back into the high 90s through the holiday weekend, before dropping to the 80s the rest of the week.
Coastal spots like Cambria, Morro Bay and Pismo Beach remain a refuge from the heat with highs in the low 80s and sunny skies.
