After Thursday and Friday’s rains, the Santa Lucia (northeasterly) winds will produce clear and warm weather through Monday. However, the relentless northwesterly winds of spring will develop on Tuesday and will continue through the end of April.

A pattern of fresh to strong (19 to 31 mph) northwesterly winds developing during the afternoon, decreasing and shifting out of the northeast (Santa Lucia) during the night and morning, will continue through Monday as high pressure rebuilds over Central California. This pattern will produce clear skies, except for areas of morning ground fog in the valleys. This condition will also produce warmer weather with the inland valleys (Paso Robles) reaching into the low and mid-80s, while the coastal valleys (San Luis Obispo) the high-70s to low 80s. The beaches will reach into the low to mid-70s.

Batten down the hatches! A pattern of moderate gale-force to fresh gale-force (32 to 46 mph) northwesterly winds developing during the afternoon, decreasing somewhat during the night and morning will start Tuesday and will continue through Saturday. These northwesterly winds should be strong enough to prevent the marine layer from developing, keeping the skies mostly clear, except for haze, blowing dust and mist along the coastline. This onshore flow will produce cooler temperatures.

The next chance of rain is forecast on May 3, 4 and 5.

Surf report

Strong to gale-force northwesterly winds off the Northern and Central California coastline will generate a 5- to 7-foot northwesterly (300-degree, deep-water) sea/swell (with a 5- to 15-second period) on Sunday into Tuesday morning.

This northwesterly (300-degree, deep-water) sea and swell will build to 7- to 9-feet (with a 7- to 14-second period) on Tuesday afternoon and will remain at this level through Thursday, decreasing to 6- to 8-feet on Friday into Saturday.

Seawater temperatures will decrease to between 50 and 52 degrees on Sunday and remain at this level though Tuesday, lowering to 48 to 50 degrees on Wednesday into Saturday.
