A man accused of driving drunk narrowly escaped a potentially deadly crash after getting his truck stuck on train tracks, Michigan authorities said.

On Oct. 23 just after 10:30 p.m., a train struck a Ford F-150 stopped on the tracks in Campbell Township, according to an Oct. 24 Facebook post from the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver told deputies he was drunk and had gotten his truck stuck on the track about half a mile from the nearest road access point.

Upon seeing the train approaching, the driver got out and safely away from the truck, according to the sheriff’s office.

The train could not stop in time and plowed through the pickup, authorities said.

The Clarksville Fire Department, which responded to the accident, said there were no injuries to the driver or the three crew members aboard the train.

Michigan State Police investigated the crash and the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the drunk driving case, the sheriff’s office said.

Campbell Township is about a 30-mile drive southeast from Grand Rapids.
