Teen in stolen truck kills woman in crash following 100-mph pursuit, OK cops say
A teenager driving a stolen truck at over 100 mph while evading law enforcement hit a car carrying two people, killing one, Oklahoma authorities said.
“The only word that applies here is tragedy,” Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton said at an Oct. 20 news conference shared by KOTV.
Authorities said 23-year-old Logan Harrel was pronounced dead at the scene of the Oct. 20 crash and her mother, 50-year-old Kimberly Harrel, was airlifted to a Tulsa hospital, KOKI reported.
Walton said the Rogers County Sheriff’s Office was asked to help pursue a 17-year-old driver from Rogersville, Missouri, in a stolen vehicle, the outlet reported.
Authorities found the car crashed and learned the teen had stolen a second vehicle, leading to a second pursuit, KJRH reported.
According to Walton, the 17-year-old tried to run over a deputy who was deploying stop sticks.
The teen hit the stop sticks before he flew “over the railroad tracks” and struck the car carrying the mother and daughter driving on Highway 66, Walton said.
Charges have not been announced.
Rogers County is about a 35-mile drive northeast from Tulsa.
