Cal Poly’s mustang mascot, Chase, will officially retire on Nov. 22, 2025. The horse has led athletes onto the field ahead of each football game for more than a decade.

Cal Poly’s mustang mascot will take to the football field one last time this November before galloping off into his retirement.

Chase has served as the university’s beloved mascot for 12 years, Cal Poly said in a news release Tuesday.

He was donated to the university in 2013 as a gift to help bolster Mustang spirit on campus.

“Since 2014, Cal Poly’s beloved mustang, Chase, has welcomed fans and led the charge onto the field at the start of each game,” the announcement said. “Following this season — his 12th — he will ride into a well-deserved retirement.”

Fans can bid farewell to the beloved mascot at the Mustang Corral pre-game barbecue ahead of the Nov. 22 football game, when he’ll make his last run onto the field, the release said.

Chase will spend his retirement leisure grazing and galloping at Cal Poly’s Oppenheimer Family Equine Center, the release said.

Cal Poly will announce Chase’s mustang mascot replacement during the 2026 season.
