4.1-magnitude earthquake jolts SLO County. Did you feel it?

A 4.1-magnitude earthquake shook San Luis Obispo County on Tuesday morning.

According to the U.S. Geographical Survey, the earthquake occurred at 9:54 a.m.

Its epicenter was 5 miles west of Templeton just north of Highway 46 West.

On The SLO County Life Facebook page, multiple users from around the county reported feeling the quake, particularly in the North County.

“I didn’t feel it so much as I heard it! It sounded like an explosion (Templeton)!” Lisa Ann Murdock posted. “It knocked pictures off the walls at my house in Paso and was loud there also.”

Users on the North Coast also posted about the quake.

“Felt it strong in North Morro Bay,” user Pamela Hamp wrote. “Big windows were swaying and loud rumble. Reminded me of the last big quake in Paso.”

The earthquake’s depth was around 3.5 miles. According to the Richter scale, a 4.1-magnitude earthquake is enough to feel moderate shaking and may cause very light damage.

The quake was felt as far away as San Jose, Fresno and Santa Barbara, the USGS reported.

The survey predicted there is a 21% chance of at least one aftershock with at least 3-magnitude in the next week.

According to the survey, three low-magnitude aftershocks also hit the area within an hour of the earthquake shaking.

A 1.7-magnitude earthquake was recorded in the same area at 10 a.m., a 2.3-magnitude earthquake was recorded at 10:09 a.m. and a 1.5-magnitude earthquake was recorded at 10:17 a.m.

According to the Geological Survey, earthquakes between 1.4 and 3.9-magnitude causes “light” shaking that may not be felt by everyone. Earthquakes of that magnitude also do not cause damage, according to the survey.
