Cal Poly student resident adviser arrested after break-in at on-campus apartment
A Cal Poly student and resident adviser has been arrested in connection with a Sept. 7 break-in at an on-campus apartment, in which a resident woke to an intruder holding their hands over the victim’s face.
At about 3 a.m. on Sept. 7, a resident in the Poly Canyon Village apartments awoke to find an intruder in their room, Cal Poly said in a campus email at the time.
The resident fought back and a struggle ensued, Cal Poly said, leading the suspect to flee out the front door. The suspect was described as a young Asian adult male with neck-length hair, wearing a gray sweatshirt and khaki pants.
On Thursday afternoon, suspect Alexis Alejandro, 25, was arrested by campus police, on suspicion of burglary and assault with intent to commit rape, according to a campus email.
Alejandro was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on Thursday night.
His bail was set at $100,000, according to the SLO County Jail website. He was still in custody as of Friday afternoon.
Alejandro has been barred from the university campus, Cal Poly Police Chief George Hughes said in the release.
The arrest comes as thousands of students moved back onto campus this week, starting with first-year students on Tuesday and Wednesday and continuing students on Thursday and Friday.
