That freak thunderstorm has officially left SLO County. What’s next in weather forecast?
A severe summer storm left San Luis Obispo County as quickly as it arrived.
The thunderstorm unleashed heavy rainfall near the eastern border of San Luis Obispo County on Thursday afternoon, leaving inland areas vulnerable to flash flooding.
Lightning struck Atascadero while Highway 166 flooded near Wasioja Road outside of Santa Maria at about 4:15 p.m.
Caltrans set up an eastern closure of Highway 166 at New Cuyama and a western closure at mile marker 55, which has since reopened, according to the CHP traffic log.
By Friday morning, the storm blew east into Kern County, casting a drizzle of rain over inland San Luis Obispo County as it left, the Weather Service said.
The Carrizo Plain could expect rain showers and even thunderstorms before 11 a.m. on Friday, before ushering in a sunny afternoon with a high near 81 degrees, the Weather Service said.
That area will enjoy a warm and sunny weekend, with a high near 87 degrees on Saturday and 90 degrees on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Weather Service forecast a sunny Friday with a high near 69 degrees for San Luis Obispo.
On Saturday, San Luis Obispo can expect a cloudy morning and a sunny afternoon with a high near 73 degrees. Sunday will also be mostly sunny with a high near 81 degrees, the Weather Service said.
Paso Robles will have a warmer Friday with a high of 81 degrees.
The city can also expect a foggy Saturday before 11 a.m., burning off for a sunny afternoon with a high of 87 degrees.
Sunday in Paso Robles will be “sunny and hot” with a high near 96 degrees, the Weather Service said.
