A scam claiming city water is unsafe has struck again in San Luis Obispo County.

Door-to-door salespeople have reported in Grover Beach, falsely claiming that the city’s water is contaminated, the city said on Facebook.

The scammers often offer to test a home’s water or sell the residents a filtration system, the city said.

However, Grover Beach’s water meets or exceeds state requirements, according to the city.

“If someone shows up at your door making claims about your water quality without City identifiers, do not let them in or trust their claims,” the city wrote.

The solicitors were also active in Arroyo Grande on Thursday, the city said on Facebook.

The city also warned residents not to let anyone into their home unless clearly marked as city water staff, and said Arroyo Grande’s water also meets regulations.

Similar scams have occurred within the last year in other SLO County cities, including Paso Robles and SLO.
