True-crime TV series to air episode on Paso Robles murder. Here’s where to watch
An ABC News true-crime series will air a new episode on a San Luis Obispo County murder Friday night — the second national news outlet to investigate the story this year.
The May 2018 disappearance of Paso Robles hairstylist Nancy Woodrum triggered a months-long investigation to find her murderer.
Woodrum, 62 at the time of her death, owned The Strand Salon with her daughter. Friends remember her as a “strong and independent” person, a Tribune article from the time of her disapearance said.
Carlo Fuentes Flores, who had done painting work at Woodrum’s home, surfaced as the main suspect in the case in November 2018. He later confessed to Woodrum’s murder, wrote a letter of apology to her family and led investigators to where he left her body in the Carrizo Plain.
He was found guilty of murder by SLO County Superior Court Judge Timothy Covello in January 2022 and sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Woodrum’s story will soon be shared on the ABC News true-crime series “20/20”. It follows a CBS special on the case that aired in January.
ABC News Correspondent Whit Johnson recently spent time in SLO County meeting with Woodrum’s friends and family and Sheriff’s Office investigators for the upcoming “20/20” episode on the “major whodunit,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a post on X.
SLO County Sheriff Ian Parkinson, Detective Clint Cole and retired forensic specialist Jeanine West will be featured on the episode discussing the cutting-edge technology that helped solve the missing persons case and bring justice to Woodrum’s family, the post said.
The two-hour episode “The Vanishing of Nancy Woodrum” was set to air on ABC TV at 9 p.m. on Friday and start streaming the next day on Disney+ and Hulu, according to ABC News.
