Nipomo man arrested after allegedly backing truck into man in road rage incident
A Nipomo man was arrested after he allegedly intentionally hit a pedestrian with his truck in what police are calling a road rage incident
According to a news release from the San Luis Obispo Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Broad Street to respond to a reported vehicle versus pedestrian incident at around 11:18 a.m. on Friday.
Officers determined that the pedestrian, a 36-year-old male, was intentionally struck by the vehicle after a road rage incident that started on Highway 101, according to the release.
Witness statements and video evidence from the scene of the incident showed that the man and suspect “exchanged hand gestures and words” while traffic was gridlocked on the highway, the release said.
The 36-year-old then pulled off of the highway onto Broad Street, parked, and was closely followed by the suspect, according to the release.
The suspect then attempted to run the man over, forcing him to jump out of the way to avoid being hit, the release said, at which point the suspect put his truck in reverse and allegedly deliberately backed into the man, pinning him against his own truck and fleeing the scene.
The victim declined transport to the hospital via ambulance, but was treated at a local hospital for minor to moderate injuries, according to the release.
A nearby witness took a photo of the suspect vehicle as it left the area and provided it to officers. A records check of the plate number indicated that the registered owner was 37-year-old Nipomo resident Miguel Solisvargas, according to the release.
A “be on the lookout” notice was broadcast to the surrounding agencies, and San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office deputies found the vehicle at the home of Solisvargas later that day, according to the release.
San Luis Obispo Police Department officers traveled to Nipomo, arrested Solisvargas and booked him into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of two felony charges of vandalism and assault with a deadly weapons, according to the release.
Solisvargas was no longer in jail custody as of Wednesday, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office booking log.
