2 teenage boys stabbed in SLO County — and 2 men are now in custody
Two men were arrested after allegedly stabbing two teenage boys in Cambria on Sunday night.
A few minutes past 9 p.m., officers responded to a report of two juvenile males, aged 14 and 16, who had been stabbed in the 2200 block of Main Street, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The suspects had fled the scene by the time officers arrived. Officers provided medical assistance to the victims and obtained a description of the vehicle the suspects had fled in, the release said.
With help from California Highway Patrol, officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle on Highway 46 at Hidden Valley Road in Templeton, the release said.
The two suspected men were identified as 32-year-old Miguel Angel Cervantes and 33-year-old Jose Munoz, both of Delano, the release said. Cervantes was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm — in this case, a knife — and Munoz was arrested as an alleged accessory.
Cervantes is a former felon and has a criminal record in Kern County, having previously served jail time for burglary, possession of a firearm by a felon, participating in a street gang, drug charges and violating probation, according to the Kern County criminal case records. He was sentenced to 6 months and then later 2 years in jail, but got off early for good behavior both times after about 45 days.
Both suspects were detained without incident.
Both stabbing victims are expected to recover from their injuries, the release said. They were transported for treatment at a local hospital, where one was discharged quickly and the other was transferred to a specialized care facility for continued observation.
It did not appear the suspects and victims knew each other beforehand, the release said.
The release said the stabbing appeared to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the SLO County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division at 805-781-4500.
