Paso Robles police find shooting suspect hiding in the back of SUV
A Paso Robles man was arrested Tuesday morning after he reportedly was yelling and shooting a gun.
Around 8:30 a.m., a witness reported a man — now identified as 41-year-old Francisco Gutierrez — was yelling in the 500 block of Oak Street, the Paso Robles Police Department said in a news release. The witness reported hearing gunfire as officers responded, and officers also heard gunfire as they arrived at the scene, police said.
There, the witness told officers they saw Gutierrez leaving the area in a black SUV prior to the officers’ arrival. Officers then located Gutierrez as he entered a black SUV one block north.
Officers found Gutierrez hiding in the backseat and found a loaded firearm and spent shell casings inside the vehicle, police said.
Gutierrez was detained, and no injuries were reported.
Police said officers spoke with female acquaintance of Gutierrez who may have gotten into a verbal argument with him around the time of the gunfire, but it is unclear if she was present at the time of the incident.
Gutierrez was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm, but he was not in jail custody as of 12:45 p.m.
Police ask anyone with additional information to call 805-227-7429.
