SLO man arrested after he carjacked transit authority van at gas station, police say

A San Luis Obispo man was arrested after allegedly carjacked a Regional Transit Authority minivan Monday.

Cody Miller, 36, allegedly shoved the van driver away from the van as the driver was filling up gas at JB Dewar at 75 Prado around 3:30 p.m., San Luis Obispo Police Department said on Facebook.

MIller then reportedly jumped into the van and drove off, police said.

The van was seen going northbound on Highway 101 with the back hatch open. Officers located the vehicle on the highway just past the Monterey Street ramp and stopped it near Old Stagecoach Road.

Miller was arrested on suspicion of felony carjacking, felony vehicle theft and a parole violation. He wad in custody at San Luis Obispo County Jail without bail as of Tuesday morning, according to the San Luis Obispo County sheriff’s inmate database.

Court records show Miller was on parole for a 2023 arson conviction.

The van driver was not injured, and the van was returned to the Regional Transit Authority, police said.
