Bicyclist injured in SLO hit-and-run dies. Police are still looking for the driver
One of the bicyclists who was injured in a recent hit-and-run has died, and San Luis Obispo police are continuing to search for the driver.
Two men from Avila Beach, 87-year-old Saul Goldberg and an unidentified 73-year-old were riding electric bicycles southbound on South Higuera Street near the cemetery on July 23 when the driver of an “unknown vehicle” sideswiped the first bike then hit the second, according to the San Luis Obispo Police Department.
Both men, who were wearing helmets, were thrown to the ground, police said.
Goldberg was quickly loaded into an ambulance and transported to a hospital in critical but stable conditions. He succumbed to his injuries on July 30.
The 73-year-old sustained minor to moderate injuries, police said.
A white four-door sedan was seen fleeing the scene shortly after the collisions, police said. “Its driver is wanted for questioning,” the department said.
Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the driver. Anyone who was in the area at that time or who witnessed the incident should call 805-594-8052 and reference case number 24073046.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when it becomes available.
