SLO police searching for driver who injured 2 bicyclists in hit-and-run
San Luis Obispo police are searching for a driver who injured two bicyclists in a hit-and-run on Tuesday.
A 73-year old man and 87-year-old man both from Avila Beach were riding electric bicycles southbound on Higuera near the cemetery when the driver of an “unknown vehicle” sideswiped the first bike then hit the second, police said in a news release.
Both riders were thrown to the ground, police said, “but thankfully were wearing helmets.”
A San Luis Obispo Ambulance crew was in the area at the time of the collision and stopped to assist.
The 87-year-old was quickly loaded and transported to the hospital, police said, and is currently in critical but stable condition. The 73-year-old sustained minor to moderate injuries.
A white four-door sedan was seen fleeing the scene shortly after the collisions police said.
“Its driver is wanted for questioning,” the agency said.
Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the driver.
Police asks anyone who was in the area at that time or who witnessed the incident to call 805-594-8052 and reference case number 24073046.
