Update: Suspicious package found at Atascadero post office not a bomb, police say

The suspicious package found at the U.S. Post Office in Atascadero on Thursday is not an explosive device, according to the Atascadero Police Department.
“The scene has been turned back over to the Post Office,” police said.

Authorities evacuated the U.S. Post Office in Atascadero after a suspicious package was discovered there on Thursday, according to an Atascadero Police Department news release.
At 11:22 a.m. Thursday, workers at the post office recognized a suspicious package and reached out to the Atascadero Police Department, the release said.
After assessing the package, Atascadero police officers evacuated the post office at 9800 El Camino Real, the release said.
With “an abundance of caution and concern,” police then called the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Task Force to come and analyze the package,” the release said.
Atascadero police said the post office is “closed until further notice.”
This incident is under investigation and no further information is available at this time, police said.
